The best love stories happen from the deepest friendships.

This is so true with Weston + Kirsten. From the moment we met, the first word that popped into my mind was FUN! During our first Skype call ever, when they picked up the phone, I was completely surprised! Typically my Skype calls involve the couple sitting on the couch together, or in their home office, or even in the kitchen. When Kirsten and Weston appeared on my screen, they were lounging by the pool, complete with sunglasses, fedoras, beach clothes, and the most joyful smiles I had ever seen. I loved them instantly. They informed me that they were having a stay-cation… which we quickly found out is one of their favorite things to do. The pool, a few drinks, and relaxing together. Really just BEING TOGETHER is their favorite thing. Whether it’s out riding bikes, tanning, meeting friends for dinner, or just cuddling up, being together means more to them than anything in the world.

Purple Wedding

Jenni and Fred’s Paradise Valley wedding was full of unique and beautiful touches and a lot of personality. I absolutely love shooting weddings at El Chorro Lodge because of the gorgeous landscaping and the diverse backdrops it provides for so many beautiful photos. Having Camelback Mountain as your ceremony backdrop is always a bonus!

On their wedding day, we had beautiful, bright light that made everything just glow and made their purple accent color POP. Imoni Events and Blume Events did a wonderful job designing the ceremony space and the super romantic outdoor dinner. I especially loved the wine barrels and wine glass charm details – a nod to Fred’s career in the wine and spirits industry.

After dinner, we moved inside Casa Paloma for a fun after party with delicious desserts, sexy lounge furniture and an amazing lit tree to set the mood. MT Sounds mixed up the dance music and the guests had a blast!

1920’s Glam

From Amy & Jordan Photography

WW-100715-BodyIt was like a the 1920s roared back… with a modern twist. He wore a tuxedo. Shining black shoes. Tailored black pants. A neatly tied bow tie. And a smart white dinner jacket. She wore an A-line dress with a sweetheart neckline. It was white, overlaid with sparkling blue beads, layered and laced with hints of blue tulle. An updated take on a classic look. True to tradition, she waited for her mom to arrive to her bridal suite for one last fluff of the dress, one final tug of the veil, before she’d see her almost-husband for the first time. In a similar suite not too far away, fine scotch was poured. Cheers was said. Heavy-bottomed drinking glasses clinked. His best friends toasted his final minutes as a bachelor… and his future wife. The walk to the large wooden double doors was short, and yet, very long. With each step, his heart beat a little faster. With each step, her tears came closer…

Southwest Inspired

Southwest Inspired Rehearsal Dinner

Southwest-insetFrom Victoria Canada Weddings & Events…A vibrant and festive rehearsal dinner was the perfect setting for an LA couple getting married in Phoenix, Arizona. Michelle, a Native Arizonian along with her Groom, wanted to highlight the desert elements they both loved. Both Bride and Groom attended the University of Arizona but met and fell in love in Los Angeles. The Bride and Groom envisioned a fun but sophisticated party to kick off an epic wedding weekend. Victoria Canada of Victoria Canada Weddings and Events worked together with the Mother of the Bride- a talented interior designer to develop the perfect palette.

Guests enjoyed cocktails with the breathtaking view of Camelback Mountain at the Historic El Chorro Lodge- nestled in the exclusive Paradise Valley area. Sipping Prickly Pear margaritas or for the more daring guests—Jalepeno Infused Margaritas as a Spanish guitarist entertained them was quite the welcome. Guests picked up their escort cards that were based off the traditional Mexican Fiesta Banners and ate a family style dinner in the intimate courtyard. Bistro Lights strung overhead lent a romantic glow. Mixing the beautiful patterned linen from La Tavola with colorful custom Serape Runners Victoria Canada Commissioned were the perfect backdrop for the colorful potted flowers.

The dinner was held in the grass courtyard, part of the original 1930’s structure at El Chorro. Green chili Enchiladas, Short Ribs and Tamales were topped off with Traditional Mexican Wedding Cookies and Cinnamon Churros. Toasts abound. Margaritas and Mexican Beers raised to toast the bride and groom- the perfect kick off fiesta!

2016 Wedding Cake Trends

cactus-cake-inset
Our wedding couples have brought some fabulous cakes and desserts over the years, and we must say that the 2015 wedding cakes have been especially outstanding in design. We looked ahead at some of the leading wedding cake trends for 2016 for inspiration. Happy planning!

  • Desert inspired. Local specialty bakery Růže Cake House says “Over the course of the year, we’ve been witnessing a growing trend in Southwest-inspired designs. We used to see cakes decorated with loose flowers, we’re now finishing them off with fresh succulents. Where we used to see a rhinestone monogram atop a cake, we’re now replacing it with a cactus bride and groom. In the past we might see someone go for some bling, we’re instead using sugar cactus pads that have been painted in edible gold.”
  • Naked cakes. The old saying, “It’s what’s on the inside that counts” certainly applies to this wedding cake trend: the naked cake. A layered cake is presented without an outside layer of frosting, showing off the tiers and fillings inside. This is a top trend for wedding couples who like a rustic elegance as their wedding style, and also those who prefer not-too-sweet cakes.
  • Decadent desert tables. Rather than opting for one cake, our wedding sales manager Lindsey Rendon has noticed a trend for brides wanting a dessert table. Rendon says “Indulgent treats, nostalgic candies and colorful sweets that match the décor of the wedding are fun alternatives to the traditional wedding cake.”
  • Metallic shimmer. With edible glittery frosting that’s elegantly subtle but still catches light, cakes have taken on a stylish shimmer. And without glittery frosting, wedding cakes may be wrapped with shimmery ribbon or a shimmery fondant border around the base of each layer, for added shine.
  • Ruffled frosting all along the length of the wedding cake adds a delicate, romantic look to a wedding cake. Texture can also be created by an intricate pattern in fondant layers and ‘ribbons’ overlaying the cake frosting, for a 3D effect, and lace patterns to match the lace on the bride’s gown is also an enduring wedding cake trend.
