We’re in ‘Hacienda Heaven’ today thanks to Rachel Solomon Photography and Duran Events! Disregard everything you’ve ever thought about desert wedding style. This elegant and organic editorial is full of eucaplytus, lace and green, gold and white details. Utilizing the stunning outdoor area, the tablescapes almost feel a part of the grounds and we love how complementary they are. Purple Wedding

Jenni and Fred’s Paradise Valley wedding was full of unique and beautiful touches and a lot of personality. I absolutely love shooting weddings at El Chorro Lodge because of the gorgeous landscaping and the diverse backdrops it provides for so many beautiful photos. Having Camelback Mountain as your ceremony backdrop is always a bonus!

On their wedding day, we had beautiful, bright light that made everything just glow and made their purple accent color POP. Imoni Events and Blume Events did a wonderful job designing the ceremony space and the super romantic outdoor dinner. I especially loved the wine barrels and wine glass charm details – a nod to Fred’s career in the wine and spirits industry.

After dinner, we moved inside Casa Paloma for a fun after party with delicious desserts, sexy lounge furniture and an amazing lit tree to set the mood. MT Sounds mixed up the dance music and the guests had a blast!

1920’s Glam

From Amy & Jordan Photography

WW-100715-BodyIt was like a the 1920s roared back… with a modern twist. He wore a tuxedo. Shining black shoes. Tailored black pants. A neatly tied bow tie. And a smart white dinner jacket. She wore an A-line dress with a sweetheart neckline. It was white, overlaid with sparkling blue beads, layered and laced with hints of blue tulle. An updated take on a classic look. True to tradition, she waited for her mom to arrive to her bridal suite for one last fluff of the dress, one final tug of the veil, before she’d see her almost-husband for the first time. In a similar suite not too far away, fine scotch was poured. Cheers was said. Heavy-bottomed drinking glasses clinked. His best friends toasted his final minutes as a bachelor… and his future wife. The walk to the large wooden double doors was short, and yet, very long. With each step, his heart beat a little faster. With each step, her tears came closer…

Southwest Inspired

Southwest Inspired Rehearsal Dinner

Southwest-insetFrom Victoria Canada Weddings & Events…A vibrant and festive rehearsal dinner was the perfect setting for an LA couple getting married in Phoenix, Arizona. Michelle, a Native Arizonian along with her Groom, wanted to highlight the desert elements they both loved. Both Bride and Groom attended the University of Arizona but met and fell in love in Los Angeles. The Bride and Groom envisioned a fun but sophisticated party to kick off an epic wedding weekend. Victoria Canada of Victoria Canada Weddings and Events worked together with the Mother of the Bride- a talented interior designer to develop the perfect palette.

Guests enjoyed cocktails with the breathtaking view of Camelback Mountain at the Historic El Chorro Lodge- nestled in the exclusive Paradise Valley area. Sipping Prickly Pear margaritas or for the more daring guests—Jalepeno Infused Margaritas as a Spanish guitarist entertained them was quite the welcome. Guests picked up their escort cards that were based off the traditional Mexican Fiesta Banners and ate a family style dinner in the intimate courtyard. Bistro Lights strung overhead lent a romantic glow. Mixing the beautiful patterned linen from La Tavola with colorful custom Serape Runners Victoria Canada Commissioned were the perfect backdrop for the colorful potted flowers.

The dinner was held in the grass courtyard, part of the original 1930’s structure at El Chorro. Green chili Enchiladas, Short Ribs and Tamales were topped off with Traditional Mexican Wedding Cookies and Cinnamon Churros. Toasts abound. Margaritas and Mexican Beers raised to toast the bride and groom- the perfect kick off fiesta!

Cake Trends

2016 Wedding Cake Trends

Our wedding couples have brought some fabulous cakes and desserts over the years, and we must say that the 2015 wedding cakes have been especially outstanding in design. We looked ahead at some of the leading wedding cake trends for 2016 for inspiration. Happy planning!

  • Desert inspired. Local specialty bakery Růže Cake House says “Over the course of the year, we’ve been witnessing a growing trend in Southwest-inspired designs. We used to see cakes decorated with loose flowers, we’re now finishing them off with fresh succulents. Where we used to see a rhinestone monogram atop a cake, we’re now replacing it with a cactus bride and groom. In the past we might see someone go for some bling, we’re instead using sugar cactus pads that have been painted in edible gold.”
  • Naked cakes. The old saying, “It’s what’s on the inside that counts” certainly applies to this wedding cake trend: the naked cake. A layered cake is presented without an outside layer of frosting, showing off the tiers and fillings inside. This is a top trend for wedding couples who like a rustic elegance as their wedding style, and also those who prefer not-too-sweet cakes.
  • Decadent desert tables. Rather than opting for one cake, our wedding sales manager Lindsey Rendon has noticed a trend for brides wanting a dessert table. Rendon says “Indulgent treats, nostalgic candies and colorful sweets that match the décor of the wedding are fun alternatives to the traditional wedding cake.”
  • Metallic shimmer. With edible glittery frosting that’s elegantly subtle but still catches light, cakes have taken on a stylish shimmer. And without glittery frosting, wedding cakes may be wrapped with shimmery ribbon or a shimmery fondant border around the base of each layer, for added shine.
  • Ruffled frosting all along the length of the wedding cake adds a delicate, romantic look to a wedding cake. Texture can also be created by an intricate pattern in fondant layers and ‘ribbons’ overlaying the cake frosting, for a 3D effect, and lace patterns to match the lace on the bride’s gown is also an enduring wedding cake trend.

Wedding Planner Tips

Wedding Planner Tips

Danielle & Rachel with Outstanding Occasions

Our friend Rachel from Outstanding Occasions has put together a list of reasons to hire a wedding planner to make sure your big day goes off without a hitch!

Often times we get asked by brides, or friends and family of brides-to-be on why we think everyone should hire a wedding planner for their wedding. Your wedding day is arguably one of the most important days of your life, so why would you entrust such a special day to a friend or relative to handle the details, rather than hire a professional? While we could talk about this topic for hours, and share real life stories, we thought we would leave you with our top 5 reasons on why everyone should have a wedding planner.

  • 1. They Help Alleviate Stress: Planning a wedding is and should be FUN! But, between managing a budget, interviewing vendors, determining proper etiquette and trying to please family, and friends, wedding planning can be rather stressful. A professional wedding planner is educated in all things wedding, and act as a huge resource for everyone involved. Having such a great resource by your side allows you and your fiance, family and friends to enjoy the planning process and focus on what the special day is really about.
  • 2. They Keep the Peace: In addition to wedding planning being stressful, it can also be a source of arguments and different point of views. Between parents, siblings, future-in-laws and bridal parties, someone is bound to have a different opinion or offer their two cents on what you should do for your wedding. Wedding planners can provide a fresh prospective, and offer ideas or advice to assist with the many different opinions. Having a wedding planner also helps you place the blame on an outside source while getting what you truly want for your wedding, allowing you to say, “My wedding planner recommends we do this…,” instead of saying “I want it this way….” Planners also act as your advocate. With so many opinions, decisions can be cumbersome. Our job is to help guide everyone to make the right decision for your event.
  • 3. They Make Selecting Your Vendors Much Easier: If you google “Wedding DJ”, there is no doubt hundreds will pop up in your search results. There are hundred of wedding vendors out there, and it’s easy to connect with ones that aren’t reputable. A professional wedding planner works with the best in the biz, and has the resources and first-hand knowledge on what wedding professionals match your personality, wedding style, budget and will provide you with the best service for your needs. Yes, we know that wedding venues do provide a preferred vendor list with their materials, but they are long lists that will take you hours to contact and interview each vendor. Our suggestions are customized specifically to you, which will save you a ton of time and energy!
  • 4. They Make Sense of Your Pinterest Board: In the age of Pinterest it’s hard to make sense of the hundreds of ideas you see every day. Your wedding planner helps makes sense of all those ideas dancing around your head or on your Pinterest board, and will even throw in a few ideas of their own. In addition to making sense of the floral and decor chaos, we will also ensure your wedding day design is cohesive, even if that means vetoing a few ideas that don’t fit well into your dream day.
  • 5. They Help You Create and Stick To Your Budget: Wedding Planners have been in the industry for some time, we know what things should cost and are skilled at making a realistic budget. We can help you navigate the many wedding industry price tags, balance your budget and help you prioritize what is most important to you for your wedding day. We also help brainstorm creative ways to afford items you really want, or look for even better alternatives. Wedding planners have also created strong relationships with wedding vendors, which can relate in cost savings for your rental and linen items.

These are just a few reasons why you should hire a planner, but as mentioned in the beginning, we truly could write a book about this topic!

Prickly Pear Margarita Recipe

El Chorro’s Prickly Pear Margarita Recipe

We’ve enhanced the traditional margarita by adding prickly pear, the fruit of cacti native in Arizona. Crafting a drink made with fruit from the cactus plant, Agave’s cousin makes for the perfect cocktail to sip on Cinco de Mayo. Our culinary team seasonally harvests the fruit from the cacti on property.

The flavor profile is somewhat similar to strawberry with a sweet, light fruit base but less tart and less sugary, evened out further by brightness from fresh lime.

1.5 oz Reposado Tequila
.5 prickly pear syrup
1 oz Triple Sec
.75 oz lime juice
.75 oz Sprite

Pour ingredients into salt rimmed glass full of ice. Garnish with lime. Repeat as necessary.
