Travel Awards: Best Restaurant”

The rustic Paradise Valley restaurant remains a staple in the Valley culinary scene because it celebrates its past while keeping an eye on the future. Regulars come for the iconic sticky buns, the classic beef Stroganoff and the menu mainstay trout almondine. At the same time, chef Charles Kassels crafts new, locally sourced dishes that capture the flavors of the Southwest. The restaurant continues to play a role in the lives of Valley residents, as its rustic interior and picturesque backdrop serve as the perfect location for weddings and celebrations.

A historic restaurant in Paradise Valley and a landmark for locals, El Chorro has a long history of rich tradition and culinary excellence. The property was originally opened as the Judson School for Girls by Dr. John C. Lincoln in 1934, while he was building the neighboring Camelback Inn. The property’s 22 acres were later purchased by Jan and Mark Gruber in 1937, who converted it into a restaurant and lodge, and El Chorro was born.
